What to Expect at Your First Visit

We understand that seeing a rheumatologist for the first time can feel overwhelming. Our goal is to make your visit as comfortable, informative and reassuring as possible.

During your first consultation, you can expect:

  • A detailed discussion about your symptoms, medical history and any concerns you may have.
  • A comprehensive examination, with particular attention to your joints, muscles and overall musculoskeletal health.
  • Review of previous investigations, including blood tests, X-rays, MRI scans or other imaging where available.
  • Discussion of possible diagnoses and any additional investigations that may be required.
  • A personalised treatment plan, tailored to your condition, lifestyle and goals.
  • Time to ask questions, ensuring you understand your diagnosis and feel involved in decisions about your care.

Please allow approximately 45–60 minutes for your first consultation, as we believe that understanding the whole person—not just the disease—is essential to providing the best possible care.

Please Bring With You

  • Previous blood test results
  • X-rays, MRI or CT scan reports (and images, if available)
  • A list of your current medications
  • Referral letter, if applicable
  • Your medical aid details
  • A list of any questions or concerns you would like to discuss
